Hosting and maintenance

A site that’s designed and built well can still get slow, unsafe or stale if nobody’s looking after it. We host and maintain the sites we build in-house: the same team that wrote the code keeps it running, patched and backed up, rather than handing you off to a hosting company that’s never seen your site.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

What's included

01

Hosting and infrastructure

SSL, SSD hosting, and infrastructure sized to the site, not a one-size-fits-all solution.

02

Security and updates

Core, theme and plugin updates applied on a regular schedule, with security monitoring so problems get caught before they become incidents.

03

Backups

Regular automated backups, so a bad update or a hacked plugin is a rollback, not a rebuild.

04

Small changes and support

Day-to-day changes (new content, a swapped image, a copy tweak) handled without a full change-request process.

05

Emergency support

If a site goes down, you’re talking to the people who know it, not a support queue that has to be brought up to speed first.

Why keep hosting with the people who built the site

Handing hosting to a separate provider means that the moment something breaks, you’re in the middle of a conversation between two companies working out whose problem it is. We keep hosting and maintenance in-house for the sites we build, so there’s one team, one point of contact, and nobody pointing at someone else’s code. It’s the same principle behind building custom themes instead of stacking page builders and apps: fewer moving parts owned by fewer people means fewer places for things to quietly go wrong.

Hosting for Shopify vs WordPress sites

The two platforms work differently here. Shopify hosts the store itself: servers, uptime and PCI compliance are Shopify’s problem, not yours or ours. What we manage on a Shopify build is everything around that: app updates, theme changes, and support when something needs fixing. WordPress is different, there’s no platform-level hosting included, so server infrastructure, security and updates are entirely down to whoever’s hosting it, which is exactly what this package covers for our WordPress websites. See our Shopify websites page for what’s covered there instead.

Already have a website elsewhere?

If your site’s hosted somewhere else and it’s slow, insecure, or the developer who built it has gone quiet, we can take over hosting and maintenance without a rebuild, starting with an audit of what’s actually running under the hood before anything moves.

Hosting questions, answered

Is hosting included when you build my site?

It’s available as an add-on to any build we do, and it’s the option most clients take, but it’s not compulsory. If you’d rather host elsewhere, the site is yours to take with you.

What if my site goes down?

You contact the team that built it directly, not a support ticket queue.

How often do you back up my site?

Automated backups run on a regular schedule, so a rollback is always a recent one, not a six-month-old snapshot.

Can I move my hosting away from you later?

Yes. The site, its content and its code are yours regardless of who hosts it. There’s no lock-in.

Do you host Shopify stores too?

Shopify hosts the store infrastructure itself. What we manage on top is app updates, theme changes and support. See the Shopify page above for the detail.

What does hosting and maintenance cost?

Get in touch with the size and platform of your site and we’ll give you a proper number rather than a generic monthly rate that doesn’t reflect what you actually need.
